At the end of the musical The Wiz, the Scarecrow says “All there is that is real is the
friendship that two can share.” I love this quote, and wanted to create a painting that
celebrates the love two people can share, and that this love we experience can make any
place feel as though you are “at home.” Using the lyrics to the song “Home”, also from The
Wiz, I generated a rhythmic background of cut out letters and shadows that supports two
figures, Spacia Tanno, the force energy of Space, and Amplexus, the greatest consensual hugger in the universe.
The text in the cutout letters is from comes from a song Dorothy sings at the end of The Wiz, and reads “Living here in this brand new world might be a fantasy, but it taught me to love, so it’s real, real to me. And I have learned that we must look inside out hearts to find a world full of love like yours, like mine.”
